SnapAddon: BOULTON PAUL P.82 Defiant MkI/NF.MkII (circa 1940-42)

The philosophy of a single-engine fighter with all armament concentrated
in a power-operated turret was proven tactically a failure after Dunkirk.
Susequently since it carried a second crew member the Defiant was judged
a good basis for a dedicated night fighter and was reclassified from the
MkI as the NF.MkII series which was eventually withdrawn from opertional
roles by the end of 1942. But during 1940-41 it did well starting from
the "night blitz" and also served in air/sea/rescue in Britain, Mid East
and Far East while some became relegated for non-combatant duties.

For this addon you have its shape changing after raising the landing gear
into its combat-ready postion as the rear turret fairing would have been
lowered for a full 360 degree firing range and the pilot had to shut his
hood while the gunner would then retract the forward fairing. The tactics
employed were as difficult as they were unique since the turret guns were
seldom fired forward as a result their flash blinded the pilot. Instead
those aircraft with the radar would gradually draw along side or beneath
the enemy bomber before opening fire with quick direct hits and take the
immediate evasive action by which time both crew members would have lost
all night vision.

Due to limitations in the game, this tactic seldom works due to the slow
reaction time of the flex operated guns if your depending on your AI. Plus
the AI are primarily defensive and fighter-bias aiming at enemy escorts
first unless the bombers are completely unattended. So instead you now
have the pilots option to use your 4 guns firing also in a fixed forward
position to help achieve the best results and hope you have fun with this.
